Cricket v Craigclowan

Three matches took place against Craigclowan with the 1st XI playing away (on the North Inch in Perth) and the 2nd XI and the Colts A playing at home:

1st XI –  What a match!!! The boys will never again be involved in such a close match and perhaps with slightly better game management they could have held on.  Sadly, however, we lost the match on the final ball. We batted first and it was the best batting performance of the season so far with some fine individual knocks. Unfortunately a few silly runs meant that we lost the batsmen who were in and seeing the ball like a balloon meaning we perhaps didn’t post as high a score as we possibly could have done. However, 136 from 20 overs was not to be sniffed at and was certainly very defendable! Our fielding was on the whole sharp and we bowled well although too often dropped short allowing for attacking shots to be played. They had one batsman who scored 64 and had we managed to snaffle him the story may have been different. Unfortunately, needing three to win from the final ball, the ball was bowled nicely and slogged towards the cover point boundary not quite crossing for a four. However the batsmen ran three and secured victory in a very tense match for Craigclowan. Many positives going forward! (Mr David Knock)

2nd XI –  Another wonderful day set the scene for the 2nd XI’s game against Craigclowan, this time playing at home. We won the toss and elected to bat. The boys had a good start thanks to Thomas P and Donald G who scored 22 runs between them with plenty of quick singles to put the field under pressure. Special mention must also go to James H for hitting the only four of our innings which helped us achieve the team’s highest total of 85/7 after 20 overs. We had a great first 10 overs bowling few wides and fielding well which resulted in many quick wickets. Harry Y was the standout bowler by bowling four overs, three wickets, 11 runs and four wides. He was well supported by Cyprien d’A and Arran M. As the game neared the end the boys started to slack off and leak runs. It came down to the last over with Craigclowan needing 2 runs. Unfortunately they scored the runs with 4 balls to spare. This was by far the best game I have seen the boys play and I look forward to next week’s game against Gordonstoun. Also a special thank you to all the parents and grandparents that watched the game. Your support was greatly appreciated. (Mr Tim Summers)

Colts A – We fielded and Jack H and Jamie LM both bowled well with figures of 2 for 11 and 2 for 8 respectively. Unfortunately we did not put enough pressure on their batsmen and one of them scored 54 runs (and was dropped a couple of times…). Craigclowan finished with 115. It was good to see some of the batting skill we had practised being used. Jamie’s was the top scorer with 12 but his innings came to an end after an over-enthusiastic pull shot knocked over the stumps! A mini victory was to bat out our overs, but finishing with 47 for 9 meant we came second in this encounter. (Mr John Gore)
