Form 4 Camp

As part of their summer term Barvick, Form 4 were invited to join Mr Davey, Mrs Kinge, Miss Burling and I for an overnight camping trip at Kindrochit, by the shores of Loch Tay. After pitching the bell tents, Mr Fox-Pitt kindly led the group on a highly informative walk along the loch shore, through the magical forest and up the abandoned silver mine track high above the hamlet of Ardtalnaig. We heard all about the communities that used to be based here before the clearances and were treated to stunning views across the loch to Ben Lawers. After returning to camp, we enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken curry followed by cake and toasted marshmallows over the campfire on the shores of the loch. Many of the children took this opportunity to show off their knowledge of the Star Wars films with an impromptu quiz. The group then headed to bed, ready for the challenges prepared for them for the Sunday. Mr Davey treated us to a cooked breakfast of sausages and bacon which left us ready for some kayaking on the loch. The sun had just burst through the clouds at this point and the water looked particularly inviting, possibly explaining why some of the group spent nearly as much of the time in it as they did in their kayaks! Plenty of splashing, wobbling around and standing up in the boats ensued along with a couple of kayak races which Mrs Kinge took particularly seriously. We then took advantage of the sun to pack up and dry the bell tents before a fantastic team effort of rolling them and neatly packing them into their bags, ready for use on the next camp. Mr Davey and Mr Fox-Pitt then prepared homemade pizzas on the Ardvreck mobile pizza oven with Mrs Kinge policing pizza slice distribution and ensuring fairness (although I’m sure some people were back for fourths and even fifths!). An archery and paintballing target shooting competition then followed with some very accurate shooting demonstrated by all participants. A final site clean-up and massive thank you to the Fox-Pitts for hosting us was held before we departed for Crieff and Ardvreck School. Well done Form 4 for a most enjoyable weekend!
