Girls’ Cricket v Belhaven

On Wednesday the U13 girls played a cricket match against Belhaven, at home on the Hayfield. This was an exciting prospect for the girls (and me!) as it was the first U13 girls’ cricket match of the season. With some wonderful coaching from the senior boys, Mr Knock and Mrs Kinge we all felt prepared and raring to go.  Amelia A captained the team. We lost the toos and Belhaven elected to field first.  The girls knew that there were three key words to shout when batting …  ‘Yes’, ‘no’ and ‘wait’. All the girls used this very effectively. I was very impressed with all their batting efforts as they reached a final score of 210 runs (having started on 100!). After a yummy match tea it was time to get back onto the cricket field and do some fielding and bowling. All the girls had a chance to bat and bowl which made it a very exciting game for everyone. There were some wonderful catches from Amelia A and Abi C, some very good bowling from India N and Elsa E and some very good fielding from Sacha FP and Iona B. The girls were doing a brilliant job and had big smiles on their faces.  With one over left to bowl, Belhaven had to score 18 runs to win.  This was a very exciting and intense moment in the match and the girls managed to hold it together and won by 10 runs! The girls at Ardvreck are unbeaten at cricket so far and long may this continue! Thank you to all members of staff who helped the girls with the Cricket coaching .  Thank you also to Mr Summers who umpired the match and helped the girls whilst they were on the pitch. Well done girls. (Miss Sophie Beamish)
