Form 3 continued with the exploration of the Solar System by making a model to investigate the relative distances between the sun and each planet.
They used their knowledge of division, decimals and rounding numbers to decide on a scale to use to measure distances in our model. Using toilet rolls as their unit of measure, each sheet represented 25 million kilometres! Neptune was 180 sheets away from the Sun (or 4500 million kilometres).
We came to realise the enormous distances (and time) involved in travelling from Earth to each of the planets. This makes space travel very difficult using current technologies. (Mr Trussler)
