1st XV Rugby- Merchiston

There was a tangible air of anticipation as the Ardvreck boys warmed up and ran through a few last minute moves, awaiting the arrival of the Merchiston team. We all knew that this was going to be a tough fixture and it was fantastic to see the home team accelerate hard out of the blocks, putting the visitors firmly on the back foot for the opening 10 minutes, with Charlie L keeping hold of the ball as the team helped him over the line with a powerful rolling maul. Credit should be given to the Merchiston boys who came back fighting with some quick ball from the ruck and great passing managing to exploit holes in the Ardvreck defence and score a raft of tries in reply. For the final quarter of the game, Ardvreck once again applied the pressure and rallied for a well worked try from Seb S and a very close effort from Finn S in the dying minutes. Ardvreck were dominant in the scrum throughout and can take many positives from the day – a great game of rugby and a fantastic performance from two evenly matched and skilful teams. My Ardvreck man of the match went to Seb S for some exceptional rucking, handling and heads-up rugby. Final score 14-42. (Mr Robertson)
