Cargilfield U11 Sevens

Last year this event fell on the Ardvreck 7s day and so we were very pleased to hear that Cargilfield had moved their tournament to the day before on 4 November, and therefore off we trotted in search of silverware with the Colts boys. They started slowly in the bitter cold and often more interested in the planes low overhead we had to work on our concentration. Sadly we lost our first game against St Mary’s and so knew that we had to respond as we went onto the field against a Loretto side that I believe we have now faced 5 times this season. True to form and with Loretto bodies strewn across the field our boys competed fiercely and have now beaten them 5 times this season! We were now up against one of the tournament favourites and struggled to compete as well losing relatively heavily to the hosts and therefore finishing 3rd in our group. This put us into the plate competition. We played and beat Cargilfield B team in the semi final meaning the boys were in with a chance of bringing back the much sort after silverware. The final started, the boys were warmed up and raring to go and started the contest with a tap and pass. Two passes later saw super speedy winger Xan A run unopposed down the flank to score in the corner. A great start! It was a physical game and with one or two interpretations of the laws differing from other referees the boys readjusted to make sure it was two immediate passes rather than two passes before we score. They played valiantly and lead inspirationally by their Captain Ewan F and by one or two other senior players in Kerr B and Ellis A we fought hard right to the end. Unfortunately it was not enough and despite being on the ascendency we ran out of time and our comeback was cut short at a 4-3 loss in the final. Very encouraging for the future and the boys had a lot of fun! A really great day out. Well done boys! (Mr Knock)
