Colts- Merchiston 15/11/17

Colts A:
The boys started very slowly and, up against a strong Merchiston side, they struggled in the opening moments. Merchiston were quicker to the breakdown throughout the game and kept their shape and moved the ball better. However our boys did not lose heart and fought back towards the end of the first half. The first half finished 5-2 to the home side. The boys knew what they had to do in the second half but couldn’t quite get the whole package together. Too many missed tackles and not enough quick support along with some hanging back in defence meant that Merchiston put us to the sword. On another day Ardvreck would have scored a few more tries and had a bit more possession but in the end the better team won on the day. The boys should be proud of the efforts despite the final score and that 14-5 result was certainly not a reflection of the game between the prep school boys on the field. (Mr Knock)

Colts B:
On Wednesday the 15th of November, the Colts travelled to Merchiston for a match of rugby. The boys started off fantastically scoring a few tries thanks to some great work from Cameron A and Lawrie B. Unfortunately towards the end of the first half our defence slackened off and this allowed Merchiston to slip pass us to score a few tries of their own. The score at half time was 4-5 to Merchiston. With a quick half time break the boys were determined and hungry for the win. However every time we scored Merchiston frustratingly managed to stay one try ahead of us. This resulted in the match ending in a 8-10 loss to Merchiston. Despite the loss the boys should keep their heads high as this was one of their best performances this year and it was great to see every member of the team put in 100 percent. Hopefully on Saturday we can get the result we are looking for against Belhaven. (Mr Summers)
