Our pipers and drummers had a wonderful time at Strathallan School today during the Fun with Pipes and Drums Day. After meeting in the chapel, the musicians split into sectional rehearsals until lunchtime. Our pipers learned two new tunes,”Sine Bhan” (Fair Jean) and “Fix You” by Coldplay. Our drummers learned some new technical exercises, rhythmic patterns and collaborated with pupils from Strathallan, Craigclowan and Cargilfield to produce a 2/4 drum piece.
After a delicious lunch, they went for more sectional rehearsals then had fun designing their own tartan. After a delicious snack they went to the theatre for the final joint rehearsal of the day and worked on full band repertoire including Bonny Galloway as well as playing through the new drumming and piping tunes mastered earlier in the day. This was led by Mr Craig Muirhead, one of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers who was truly inspirational!
At 3pm they gave a splendid performance at the concert and our pipers and drummers were a real credit to themselves and to the school. Well done to Jack H who was awarded a prize for his winning entry in the tartan design competition! Many thanks to all parents who came along to support them. Thank you also to Lisa Leslie and all the music staff for organising the event and for giving our young musicians such a great opportunity to develop their skills. Well done boys and girls!
