Hockey- Strathallan 13/01/18

Colts A
Our Colts A hockey team travelled to Strathallan on Saturday for our first match of the season. In the first half we held our shape very well and played direct, attacking hockey with lots of linking-up play between players. Ardvreck deservedly went off at 1/2 time in the lead. This clearly unsettled Strathallan and they returned for the 2nd half ‘rebooted’ and with a few rather large substitutes. Unfortunately they were able to slowly gain control of the match and Ardvreck were forced to defend for long periods. Well done to Strathallan for their win, thank you for the great match tea and especially well done to Colts A for entertaining us with some lovely, flowing, joined-up, fast, attacking hockey. All the parents and coaches were very proud of the effort and commitment shown by every player. We will learn from this and grow stronger! (Mr van Blerk)

Colts B
The Colts B team started their Hockey season brightly with lovely teamwork resulting in Cameron M putting the boys into the lead. They held onto their lead as the half time whistle went. The boys played with a lot of heart and should be proud of their first outing this term. There is a lot to work on but the boys put in a lot of effort and showed good Ardvreck spirit. During the second half the boys began to look tired and their play reduced in quality. We will work hard to improve the fitness and with this being the cross country term too it will be a big focus going forward. The ball became a magnet, the defence lapsed and the ball ended up in the Ardvreck net three times. The final score was an encouraging albeit disappointing 3-1 loss in an entertaining game. Lots of positives and many things to work on as we head into the rest of the season starting at Fettes on Wednesday. (Mr Knock)
