Netball- U9 & U10 Carglifield 31/01/18

U9-

The U9s travelled to Cargilfield on Wednesday 31st January. After cheering on the U10s and warming up, they won the toss and with Captain Amelia P at the helm, they started in good form. Cargilfield were strong and broke through our defence to score an early goal. Although we fought hard, we often struggled to find a space and Cargilfield gained possession of the ball, scoring another 4 in the first half. We retaliated and Jemima B scored one before the whistle. After a quick break and brief team talk to focus our skills and work on our tactics, we resumed the match. Our defence was much stronger in the second half and although Cargilfield were still strong enough to score another 3 goals, Addison scored another to take the final score to 8-2 to Cargilfield. Whilst this was not our best performance, we learned a lot and are working on our targets for the next match. Well done, girls! (Ms Henderson)

U10-

Due to the snowy conditions in the morning we were worried that the match wouldn’t go ahead. Luckily the conditions in Edinburgh were so bad, so the match went ahead. The Under 10s travelled to Cargilfield to a very cold (outdoor) netball court. The girls took the cold in their stride and warmed up making sure their passes were accurate and their footwork was on form. Rosie L, our captain, won the toss and we chose to shoot away from the sun. The match began with Cargilfield impressively scoring a goal within the first minute. The girls rallied together for the next 9 minutes to try and get the ball into our D to try and shoot, but unfortunately even with Rosie L’s impressive defending, the half time score was 10-0.  After a half time chat with Ms Henderson and myself, we encouraged the girls to get in front of the players they are marking and to use all the different types of passes. The girls went back on the court full of enthusiasm trying to get those all important goals back. Isabella C and Naomi T worked well to try and send the ball into our D but their defenders were very strong. After a fought match the final score was 16-0 to Cargifield. The girls have some skills to work on and need to gel as a team better, but we are still early in the season. A good effort girls! (Miss MacLeod)
