Climbing Competition – Morrison’s Academy

Last Friday, I had the pleasure to accompany a team of climbers to the Strathearn Climbing Competition, hosted by Morrison’s Academy. We started with our Primary aged children who attempted to complete a series of boulder problems (short climbs with no ropes and matting underneath) under the watchful eyes of the judges. They each had two attempts to complete the routes and accumulated a score as they went on. By the end of the session, Joel D had qualified for the final and went into a ‘climb-off’ against two other boys. He climbed hard and was narrowly pipped for the overall win, finishing in 2nd place. Next came the Secondary aged competition and our team took to the wall. By the end of their climbs, Findlay M and Sacha FP qualified for the climb-offs with Findlay narrowly missing out on 1st place and Sacha winning her category. Well done to all the climbers and thanks to Morrison’s for hosting us. Special mention should be made of Austin M, Lucia C, Constance S, Robert S and Rowan O from Little Ardvreck who were fantastic. Hopefully, a category for younger climbers will come about next year to recognise their efforts. (Mr Robertson)
