1st XIII Success!
After a very successful start to the season and strong performances on the tour, the boys of the 1st XIII took to the field at Craigclowan, hoping to continue their unbeaten streak on Scottish soil. The sun broke through the cloud as the game began and some great pressure from the pack along with quick thinking in the back line yielded early tries for Finn S and Will F. The quality of handling was certainly a big part of this Ardvreck performance and in spite of some solid defending from Craigclowan, we were quick to exploit any gaps that opened leading to more scores from Finn S and Curtis M. Elliot M capitalised on some loose passing after the restart and sprinted clear to seal the first half with a 6 try to nil lead. After the break, Craigclowan came straight back at us with renewed vigour and in spite of an early score from man of the match Harris P, the home team were able to score two converted tries through some strong running, exploiting small chinks in the Ardvreck armour. The game then became a much more even affair with both sides threatening to score and some great to watch, end to end rugby. Will F scored the final try of the game and converted in his usual effortless fashion to leave a final score of 54-14 to Ardvreck. Special mention should be made of some huge tackles from Charlie L, Seb S and Hamish T amongst others. Well done boys – let’s see if we can keep this up for the remainder of the season! (Mr Robinson)
And the 2nds!
We travelled to Perth this time for our ‘home derby’ match. Just back from an unbeaten rugby tour we were determined to play at a level we knew we could play at. Our defensive play was excellent bar one breach where Craiglowan were able work an overlap out wide and cross over for their one try. Every player on the field did Ardvreck proud, playing as a team and supporting each other. It was very difficult to single out any single player as it was a magnificent team effort but perhaps a special mention is fitting for Thomas P who was a stalwart for us yet again and Micah vB who was able to cross the try line 10 times. The game ended slightly early and we were 85-5 victors. Well done boys. (Mr Van Blerk)
