First XIII Cling on to the Win!
There was a chill hanging in the air at the Fettes pitches for our match and Ardvreck were a little slow coming out of the blocks, conceding an early try to the home team. From here the visitors dug in, closing down further Fettes attacks and pressuring them when on the ball. Before long, Donald G charged through a packed defence to score between the posts and level the match. Further Ardvreck pressure led to a further score from Finn S and a brilliant switch in direction yielded a try in the corner at the stroke of halftime for Robbie G. Ardvreck came back on fighting and a brilliant scything fun from Seb S brought another score for the Crieff side. Fettes did not lie down at this point and accept defeat, instead coming out fighting with some bruising tackles and testing runs. Credit should be given to their number 13 is who made a couple of fantastic wide (and extremely fast!) runs down the wing, scoring two tries and leaving Fettes trailing by only a few points. At this point, Ardvreck battened down the hatches and showed their true quality under fire with some strong runs and a great try from Will F. Fettes scored one final try but Ardvreck cling on to the win. Final score 31 – 24. Well done boys! (Mr Robertson)
We played Fettes Wednesday 8th November and all credit to Fettes for exploiting our weakness on the day resulting in a humiliating 8 – 1 loss, the first of our season. It hurt but it was our own doing. We had plenty of good attacking phases lead by Ben G, Jago M, Jack H and Jamie L . Unfortunately all 10 of the players on the field were not prepared to hold our defensive line, ‘squeeze’ the other team and make the tackles. We look forward to working on this in training and return stronger for our next matches against Merchiston and Belhaven. Come on boys, we way better than this! (Mr Van Blerk)
Fettes arrived late and so the Ardvreck boys, well warmed up, started with a bang. Knowing that the big school of Fettes, winners of the Cargilfield U11 7s at the weekend, would be tough opposition our boys played brilliantly with a high tempo and huge pressure. We scored first but then conceded a few breakaway tries. At 3-1 down they could have been forgiven for beginning to lose heart but they fought back strongly and got back on level terms at 3-3. With just two minutes to go we were on their try line and doing all the attacking. It was looking good. However, sadly, a couple of missed tackles and their quick boys were through. 3-3 became 3-5 as the final whistle blew. It was the last home game of the season and the boys should be very proud of how they performed. Mr Phillips of Glenalmond, who refereed the game, was very impressed with the Ardvreck pride and passion and they way they have improved this season. Next up… Merchiston! (Mr Knock)
The Colts B’s
The team had a home match verses Fettes. We played a match of sevens with three ten minute thirds. The boys opened up the scoring with a fantastic try from Sandy N to start the flood of Ardvreck tries. We ended up the first third 4 tries to 1 up. The second third began much like the first with another Ardvreck try coming from Rory M. This try was followed up by a magnificent try from Fred J to end the second third 6 tries to 2. At the beginning of the third half we lost concentration allowing Fettes to slip through and score a try. After this wake up call the Colts dug deep and scored 4 more tries to end the match and add another victory to the season with a 10 try to 4 win. Let’s hope we can keep the winning streak going next week against Merchiston. (Mr Summers)
