As April is Month of the Military Child, a time to recognise and celebrate the important role Service children have within the military family, we thought it was timely to share a marvellous reflection from one of our boarders, Jac, who has parents in the Armed Forces. 

At Ardvreck School, boarding is made really fun by our house staff. There’s lots of evening activities like story night (with hot chocolate), knitting club, and movie night when we share tuck. You can call home with house phones whenever you like and the teachers send pictures of us in our daily activities so our parents can see what we have been up to.

We learn all the normal subjects and even have classes outside. It’s so much fun! For games, we play rugby, netball, hockey, cricket and athletics. Music is encouraged, and most people play at least one instrument. We also have a pipe band and we have fantastic school play’s, last year I was the cow in the Wizard of Oz and this year, in Oliver, I was one of the workhouse boys. 

“Adventure Fridays” are an amazing way to have fun outdoors in the Highlands. We have been to a water park on the river Tay, mountain biking in muddy woods & skiing on dry ski slopes and real snow. “Sunday fundays” are a big part of boarding life too. They vary from biking, to bowling, ice skating or wildshore adventures.

The best thing that sets Ardvreck apart is playing “Dams and Dens” during breaks, using a big wood surrounding a burn within the school grounds.

Whenever we go home for an Exeat weekend or Half Term, the school can take us to the train station or airport. When Dad’s work was further away, I loved the train to London, as I was met with a big hug!

Ardvreck is academic and adventurous. And awesome!
